The NPA is organised around "sectors." - or issue areas. There are eight area groups which will address specific issues. The eight area groups are:
1) Infrastructure
2) Special protection measures
3) Education
4) Early Childhood Development (ECD)
5) Child maternal health
6) Nutrition
7) Leisure and recreation
8) Peace and non-violence
This includes access to safe drinking water, effective sanitation facilities, and housing among others.
2) Special protection measures-
Special protection measures includes areas such as children in criminal justice and civil justice system, all forms of abuse including sexual, physical and emotional abuse, and all forms of commercial exploitation, including child labour, pornography, prostitution and child trafficking. Safety measures in schools, homes, and the environemt will also be looked at.
Special protection measures also includes children with special needs. This includes, children living in difficult circumstances such as children who are living and working on the street, children living in poverty, orphaned children, physically and mentally challenged children, victims of violence, refugee children (or unaccompanied minors), and those infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
This area will focus on access to and quality of education.
4) Early Childhood Development (ECD)-
Early Childhood Development includes children from 0-9 years of age. This group will work to implement a framework and regulations in order to ensure a system of quality ECD.
This group will look at access to care and quality of care for children and mother. The group will also consider the issue of childhood diseased, the issue of infant and child mortality, and HIV/AIDS, to name a few.
This group will also look at the state of maternity hospitals.
This policy area will include undernutrition and malnutrition, low birth weight, and weaning practices and household food security.
This area includes issues pertaining to the provision of leisure, including safe play spaces, access to equipment and facilities, access to libraries, cinemas, museums and other spaces of leisure.
This group will work to teach children a peaceful and non-violent way of life. This will include conflict resolution, and teaching a culture of democracy. The group will work closely with all other areas, looking at the issues of violence in schools, in the home, in society, and how it impacts on children.
